Many children’s snacks marketed as healthy alternatives are actually full of unhealthy ingredients like sugar, salt and fat, according to an analysis conducted by the consumer watchdog organization, “Which?”
“Parents should be able to pick out healthy products for their kids’ lunchboxes, but what you see isn’t always what you get,” said the group’s Martyn Hocking.
“Many [products] declare that they don’t contain additives, but don’t mention they’re also full of salt or sugar – giving the impression they’re healthier than they are,” the report reads.
For example, while Dairylea Lunchables Ham ‘n’ Cheese Crackers are advertised as providing half of the recommended daily calcium for a child, nowhere on the label or in promotional materials does the company acknowledge that the product is high in fat, saturated fat and salt — containing 1.8 grams of the maximum daily recommended 3 grams of the latter.
The report also singles out Kellogg’s Frosties Cereal and Milk bars, which the company promotes by saying, “”Fortified with vitamins, iron and calcium, now you can give your kids a great tasting snack that you can be sure won’t come back from school in the lunchbox!” Yet the company does not explain that the bars contain seven different sugar ingredients and thus are nearly one-third sugar by weight.
Other supposedly healthy products that are actually high in sugar include Robinson’s Fruit Shoot orange juice drinks, with nearly five teaspoons (23 grams) or sugar in a single 200 milliliter bottle; Fruit Factory fruit strings, with 13.7 grams of sugar in a 24 gram product; and Munch Bunch Double Up fromage frais, which contain only 2.25 grams of fruit puree but more than two teaspoons (12.4 grams) of sugar.
“The best way to beat the lunchbox baddies is by checking the nutrition and ingredient information,” Hocking said. “We’d also like to see the rules on health and nutrition claims made tougher, so there’s less confusion on the supermarket shelves.”
This is why the government is pushing for more control on everything in the food and nutrition industry.

Coughing is an action by the body to get rid of substances that are irritating the air passages ways. A cough is usually initiated to clear the phlegm that is been caught in the trachea or its neighboring areas.
Frequent or continuous chronic coughing usually is seen when there is some presence of a disease. If the patient is a non-smoker and has a normal chest X-ray, the cause of chronic cough in most of all the patients is due to asthma, reflux (heartburn) or post-nasal drip.
Some other causes that contribute to chronic cough, include chronic bronchitis and medications like as ACE inhibitors. Coughing occurs both voluntarily as well as involuntarily.
Coughing is one of the ways of protecting the respiratory system, by clearing it of irritants and secretions. Coughs are either dry or productive. Dry cough usually does not bring up a mixture of mucus, irritants, and other substances from the lungs (sputum), while a productive cough brings up both.
If the cough is caused by bacteria then it may be gray, greenish or brown due to the presence of sputum in it. An allergy or viral infection cough produces a white colored sputum. In extremely serious conditions, the sputum may contain blood (possibly a cancer condition).
Environmental pollutants, such as cigarette smoke, dust, or smog, are also assumed to trigger a cough. In cigarette smokers, the nicotine present in the smoke is proved to paralyze the hairs of the nose (cilia) that perform the activity of regularly flushing of the mucus from the respiratory system. Since the mucus now builds up, it forces the body of its removal by coughing. Avoid smoking and coming in direct contact with people who smoke or who suffer from cold or flu symptoms.
Post-nasal drip, or the irritating trickle of mucus from the nasal passages into the throat, which is caused by allergies or sinusitis, can also be one of the contributing factors for generating a cough.
Some of the common chronic diseases, like asthma, chronic bronchitis, emphysema, and cystic fibrosis, are mostly characterized in part by a cough.
A condition in which stomach acid backs up into the esophagus (gastro esophageal reflux) can cause coughing, especially when a person is lying down. this should not be mistaken as a cough caused by disease. Sometimes a cough can also be a side-effect of medications that are administered with an inhaler. Many times, drugs used for treating high blood pressure can also cause side effects of cough, like the beta blockers and some ACE inhibitors.
It is important to identify and treat the origin of the disease, along with the cough that resulted. Wash hands at frequent times and especially during episodes of upper-respiratory illnesses.
Some Remedies for Cough:
Take one teaspoon of pure honey and add a pinch of ground white pepper. Regular usage of this 2-3 times a day for about 4-5 days will cure your cough.
Honey when taken with black pepper will loosen the mucous and help you get the mucus out.
If you have a cough due to a cold, drink tea made of ginger 3-4 times a day or eat raw ginger, this will help your cough subside.
Drinking red raspberry, honey suckle, or licorice tea with honey is helpful in treating cough in 2-3 days.
Take 2 tablespoons of honey and mix it in one cup of orange juice and drink it.
Prepare a cough syrup from baked onion juice, comfrey tea, and honey. Drink it daily.
Mix 1-2 tsp of pure home made turmeric powder in warm milk and drink it twice a day for coughs of a bacterial origin. Within 2 days your cough will be gone by using this method.
Gargle with warm water and salt, as many times as possible during the day. This will help clear phlegm caught in the throat.
Mix 5 ml of onion juice with 10 ml of pure honey. Take this mixture at least twice a day. This will relieve your cough and help soothe your throat.
Take 5ml of fresh tulsi (Ocimum sanctum holy basil) and mix it in 10 ml of pure honey. Take daily at least twice a day.
Add turmeric to a vessel filled with boiling water and inhale the fumes. It’s also beneficial for controlling a cough.
Prepare a paste using ¼ teaspoon of red pepper, ¼ teaspoon of ground ginger, 1 table spoon of apple cider vinegar, 1 table spoon of honey, and 2 tablespoon of water. Mix them well and take 1 teaspoon of this mixture whenever you have a cough. One of the simplest home remedies for cough.
In case of severe and chronic cough, crush 2-3 garlic and some cloves. Add this to a glass of milk or water. Then boil the mixture till it reduces to half the original content. Filter this and add a little sugar to it for improving the taste. Drink this twice a day and continue this treatment for at least a week to see visible results.
In a large vessel, boil some water. Now inhale these vapors of steam by covering your head region with the towel.
Take some garlic and boil them in water, and drink it. You can add sugar to improve the taste.
Crush some black peppers and eat them with honey.
For dry and frequent coughs, take 1-2 gm powder of fried turmeric with honey, three times a day.
Take 2-3 cloves and fry them in butter or ghee, and chew them.
Take some garlic pieces and then boil it in water, add some sugar, lemon and honey and drink it.
Take equal parts of black pepper, dry ginger, and sugar mixed in ghee or butter two times a day.
This home remedy for cough is one of the most useful ones. Take some water in the pot and put it to boil, after the water boils, put three cloves of garlic, one spoon of oregano and leave water for boiling around 4 -5 minutes. Take this water in cup and drink directly or add it in milk and then drink it.
Take a ¼ cup, add 2 teaspoons of honey, half a lemon, cinnamon and one eucalyptus leaf and drink it.
Take some eucalyptus and mint leaves and boil them in water. Now inhale its vapors while the water cools.

In the very same week that the doctor at the center of the controversy over the MMR (measles, mumps, rubella) vaccine and autism was called “dishonest, irresponsible and callous” by a medical disciplinary board, a new study has been published that suggests he could be right all along.
Researchers in New York have discovered that children with autism spectrum disorder also had inflammation in the ileum, (part of the small intestine) the exact same discovery made by Dr. Andrew Wakefield, who may now lose his medical license following a 30-month hearing at the General Medical Council.
A new study has confirmed a definite causal link between the MMR vaccine and autism – and it has used the same data employed by an earlier study that governments have relied on to deny the link.
The vaccine increases the risk of autism by 850 per cent, or nearly 500 per cent if we allow for greater diagnostic awareness, one of the major arguments put forward for the sudden increase in autism.
This conclusion contradicts that of the Madsen study carried out in 2002, which found no link, and which governments have gratefully clung to ever since.
So why the enormous discrepancy between the two trials? Autism is usually diagnosed only at age 5 or older, or it is in Denmark from where the data for both studies has been gleaned. The Madsen study monitored the progress of vaccinated children in Denmark only for four years, so it’s hardly surprising that few, if any, cases of autism were established. Less severe cases, which might have become apparent even later, were certainly not included in the findings.
The new study, carried out by American paediatrician Dr Fouad Yazbak and Dr G S Goldman, tracks levels of autism in Denmark from 1980 – seven years before the MMR vaccine was introduced in Denmark – until 2002. Prevalence of autism among children aged from 5 to 9 stood at 8.38 cases per 100,000 in the pre-vaccine years of 1980 to 1986, and then rose to 71.43 cases by the year 2000.
Dr Samy Suissa of McGill University had similar problems with the Madsen study. When he analysed the statistics he discovered that the rate of autism increases to a high of 27.3 cases per 100,000 two years after vaccination compared with just 1.45 cases in non-vaccinated children.
No doubt in the spirit of the public’s right to know, government officials will be broadcasting the latest findings as loudly as they did the Madsen conclusions. Strangely, they have been silent thus far.

Yesterday I received another testimonial with regards to the benefits of the liver flush (see below). I speak about the Liver flush on the web site, but it’s time to do it again. This is the cleanse that everyone leaves for last, a bit out of fright and a bit because they don’t know what to expect.
I have also noticed that this flush is being extensively publicized on the web, even though Dr. Clark is not always given due credit for it. Yet the liver flush is the less expensive and the most effective cleanse. As Dr. Clark wrote in her book “The Cure for all Diseases”, gallstones, being porous, can pick up all the bacteria, cysts, viruses and parasites that are passing through the liver. In this way, “nests” of infection are formed, forever supplying the body with “fresh bacteria”.
Why is it so important to keep our liver clean? Consider the following:
The liver, the biggest gland in our body has over 500 functions. Here we mention a few:
* The liver stores iron, vitamins and minerals
* The liver makes bile that helps digestion
* The liver detoxifies poisonous chemicals
* The liver stores fat, carbohydrates and glucose as energy reserve
* The liver makes blood
* The liver makes new proteins
* The liver makes clotting factors
Bile is made of water, cholesterol, bile salts, proteins, bilirubin and fat. Together with the pancreatic juices, it enables digestion of fats and vitamins in the duodenum as well as the absorption of calcium and iron. The bile is concentrated in the gallbladder. An adult produces about 800 ml of bile daily.
The presence of liver stones can impede the flowing of sufficient bile, which in turn does not allow a sufficient flow of the pancreatic juices. Malabsorption results in undigested food which in turn creates a proliferation of bacteria.
There are professionals that insist the expelled stones after a liver cleanse are only “soap stones” and that they are only the result of a mixture of oil and lemon combined with digestive enzymes and that they do not contain cholesterol nor calcium, which are the contents of the real cystic stones. My friend David in Germany was happy to have been able to answer back by presenting documented cases with laboratory reports of the analysis of liver stones.

S. 3002, the McCain-Dorgan Senate bill,
Threatens Your Access to Nutritional Supplements
Senator McCain and Senator Dorgan have outraged millions of Americans in one fell swoop with S. 3002 ! They have straight-out attacked dietary supplements in their newly-introduced “Dietary Supplement Safety Act of 2010”. Without an understanding or respect for the detailed and complex laws and regulations of the people’s treasured Dietary Supplement Health and Education Act of 1994 (DSHEA), McCain has misled the American people. On February 3, 2010, he made a statement on the Senate floor saying: “The dietary supplement industry is one that is mostly self-regulated”!! How could a Senator make such a public statement that is so completely false? Could he be unaware of the hundreds of pages of the DSHEA laws and regulations that manufacturers must follow in order to keep the ir products on the market and protect Americans’ access to safe dietary supplements?
His comments that he is putting in a more restrictive bill due to concerns from athletes that have taken adulterated products, shows his inability to point the finger where it belongs. We already have laws against adulterated products! DSHEA prohibits putting adulterated or contaminated foods and dietary supplements on the market. Those laws work. DSHEA includes detailed and complex Good Manufacturing Standard requirements for all dietary supplements. Those regulations work DSHEA regulates foods and dietary supplements as nutrients and concerns itself with safety on all levels.
McCain appears to want to over-regulate food and dietary supplements as if they were dangerous drugs instead of enforcing existing, effective food and dietary supplement laws. He sidesteps the safety history of dietary supplements in favor of more and more unnecessary and hostile regulation that will squelch a consumer-driven industry. He is suggesting additional pre-market registration requirements for all manufacturers and products. He is suggesting mandating reporting of “non-serious” adverse events even when there is no proof or verification of causation. This would be in addition to the current serious adverse event reporting requirements passed within the past three years into existing law. And finally, he is coming close to supporting the introduction of the dangerous “permission please”, “positive list” concept into US law that is already harming Europeans’ access to supplements with bill language that states: ‘‘is not included on the list of ‘Accepted Dietary Ingredients’, to be prepared, published, and maintained by the Secretary”. This kind of language sends a lightning rod through the consumer community and will not be tolerated.
Americans hold that dietary supplements are not drugs, they are nutrients, generally regarded as safe, and the government already has the ability to take them off the market if they pose a risk of harm. We encourage the marketing of nutrients. It is our right as Americans to eat nutrients of all kinds without first proving, like drugs, that they are effective to eat. We care about safety. But it is our right to decide what we want to eat. I can eat as much spinach as I want. I can eat as much Vitamin C as I want. And no government should be able to block spinach or Vitamin C, or any other nutrient, from the market without a significant public harm claim.
Already, DSHEA infringes on the truthful marketing of supplements by prohibiting health claims – even truthful statements – on supplements, without FDA’s approval. We need to change that by passing bills that prohibit censorship of truthful information. But this bill goes even further and threatens access to our supplements.
Help defeat S. 3002! Tell McCain and Dorgan to honor our existing law prohibiting adulterated products and requiring good manufacturing practices. Tell them to aggressively protect dietary supplements as foods and not drugs. Say NO to McCain and Dorgan’s S. 3002. Stop this bill before it goes anywhere.

What a wonderful thing to be free from “hay fever” and every other allergen blowing in the wind! Unfortunately, I’m not one of the people who have that experience. The world of “botany” is at war with my body and I don’t like it!
What do I do? I fight back back with all natural methods possible.
The first step in controlling allergies is figuring out what it is that triggers the allergic response.
Sometimes it is like a ton of bricks falling on you, you know as soon as you come in contact with the allergen. You have boiled shrimp at lunch and your throat swells up, you pet your neighbors cat and start sneezing and your eyes get all red where you rubbed them or your find when you go to bed and an hour or so later you can’t breath.
Dust mites are one of the most common allergens and easiest to control. By putting mattress covers on the bed, most people see a difference the next day.
Other times, it’s not so apparent. You go outside and start sneezing only during certain times of the year or when the wind blows just right. I get all stuffed up when the wind blows and the pine trees are dropping their “yellow love powder.” Our house is close to the gazillions of Melaleuca trees in our area and they give me and my wife fits.
It may be a combination of things that all happen at the same time, like holiday time at the mall where you get hit will all those wonderful and not so wonderful fragrances.
Overload of the senses and in some cases your immune system.
Often your regular doctor will try a few things by suggesting you take an antihistamine like Claritin and tell you to come back if you don’t get better or your symptoms get worse. If that’s the case, most will recommend you go to a specialist like an Allergist, ENT or Immunologist.
If this happens you need to be prepared to give the doctor the most accurate accounting of your allergy attacks. You want to be able to tell them when they happen, where you were, what you were around and how long they lasted. They’ll also want to know about your family members and who had allergies or asthma. Make a list of any medications you are taking in case they want to prescribe medication. The more information they have the quicker they can find out what is causing the allergy attacks. It also may reduce the number of tests you will have to endure. That’s always a good thing…
Once they get a better idea of what may be causing you allergy attacks they will decide what tests to run to confirm their diagnosis. Once they know what it is that causes you all the grief it gets a lot easier to control and get on with your life. After all, it’s too short to go around feeling bad all the time.

If you’re suffering from a yeast infection, chances are your doctor or health care provider will prescribe topical ointments or tablets. But these prescription drugs, many times, only aggravate this disease by helping spread the yeast-like fungi called Candida albicans. The best natural cures for yeast infection are listed below:
Yeast infection spreads primarily through exposure to a sufferer or to chemicals which trigger yeast infection. The second way to help insure prevention of candidiasis (thrush is a fungal infection (mycosis) of any of the Candida species, of which Candida albicans is the most common) is living a healthy lifestyle. Minimize drinking alcoholic beverages and soda drinks. Avoid all possible stress as this can trigger an outbreak of candidiasis. Set aside the need time for relaxation and sleep.
If your doctor prescribed antibiotics during your last illness (bacterial infection of any kind), this will often start a yeast infection or some symptoms of candidiasis. Antibiotics kill the “good bacteria” that inhibit the growth of Candida albicans. Other medicines to consider, which may start the weakening of your healthy intestinal flora are immuno-suppressants and steroids. If you take birth control pills, you should make kefir and yogurt with live active cultures a main part of your diet. This will help insure the balance of your intestinal flora.
One effective cure is a strictly regimented diet which includes the avoidance of certain foods. The standard Candida diet forbids affected individuals from eating the following:
* Sugars, even fruit should be eliminated;
* Food with high yeast and mold content, (cheeses, dried fruit, melons and peanuts;)
* Milk, dairy products, and food with high lactose content;
Only use the following:
* Water;
* Herbal teas;
* All vegetables;
* Sources of protein (meat, fish, poultry and legumes, (avoid soy and soy products;)
* Whole grains like millet, brown rice, and oatmeal (without sugar;)
* Probiotic supplements;
* After healing begins, apples, blueberries, cherries, other berries, and pears.
Reading food labels is a must for the cure to take effect. Sticking to this diet even after the symptoms disappear, not only boosts immunity, but also curbs the Candida albicans population by reintroducing friendly bacteria.
One way to relieve yeast infection is to apply natural antifungal agents like garlic paste, extra-virgin coconut oil and diluted tea tree oil directly on the skin. Grape seed extract and tannins from tea and condiments fight chronic infections extremely well.
Women with vaginal yeast infection may find relief in a few drops of diluted tea tree oil, but do not use tea tree oil undiluted. Using yogurt with active live cultures directly on the vagina will kill the candidiasis and begin the healing process. Make yogurt and kefir a part of your daily diet and the healing will be accomplished very effectively. Application should be done at least twice a day by inserting the oil or yogurt into the vagina very gently as far into the affected area as possible. Care should be taken to avoid scratching. This remedy must be continued one day after the symptoms disappear.
Eating licorice can help sufferers of endocrine yeast infection by stimulating hormones without causing side effects. Licorice can counteract the estrogen loss encountered by women with vaginal yeast infection through the release of estrogen-like friendly steroids.
Another great help is taking in electrolyte-heavy drinks. To make your own, simply squeeze in half a lemon in a glass of filtered water, then add 1/4 teaspoon of Celtic sea salt. Drink it six times during the day, three of those six times during meals.
Cleansing your colon naturally washes out the toxins made by Candida albicans and also makes the digestive system receptive to friendly bacteria. Recipes may vary, but they usually involve a mixture of garlic or garlic extract, cayenne peppers, apple cider or apple cider vinegar, and the spicy oregano oil. Or, you can purchase a colon cleanse over the counter product.
These are the best natural cures for (candidiasis) yeast infection. These are not the only cures available, but these are the ones which have been proven to work successfully over and over again. Do your research, and you may find one which works best for you. This is another good source of cures for Yeast Infections.

2.Facial pains can be relieved by massaging certain spots.
3.If you want to remove the mucus, you can try eating spicy foods.
But, the best way to avoid sinus infections is with the use of a neti pot.
Lots of sinusitis remedies can be found online. Make use of the online info resources so that you can better address your current situation. Since medical costs are soaring higher and higher, perhaps you might want to try natural cures for sinusitis.

A new study finds that the more complex a person’s diet plan, the sooner the person will abandon it.
The finding came from a study of 390 German women who were using one of two diet plans. The simpler plan provided shopping lists for dieters and a meal plan they were to follow. The more complex plan assigned point values to every food and instructed participants to eat only a certain number of points each day.
The women completed questionnaires over an eight-week time period.
“For people on a more complex diet that involves keeping track of quantities and items eaten, their subjective impression of the difficulty of the diet can lead them to give up on it,” Peter Todd, a professor in the department of psychological and brain sciences at Indiana University.
The effect endured even after the researchers accounted for the influence of significant social-cognitive factors such as self-efficacy, (people’s belief that they’re capable of achieving a goal, such as holding to a diet regimen to lose weight.)
“Even if you think you can succeed, thinking that the diet is too complex can undermine your efforts,” the study’s co-author, Jutta Mata, a psychology professor at Stanford University, explained in the news release.
The study was published online in “Appetite.”
Mata suggested that people considering going on a diet should look at a number of diet plans and consider how many rules a plan has and how many things a dieter needs to keep in mind while using the plan.
“If they decide to go with a more complex diet, which could be more attractive, for instance, if it allows more flexibility, they should evaluate how difficult they find doing the calculations and monitoring their consumption,” she said. “If they find it very difficult, the likelihood that they will prematurely give up the diet is higher, and they should try to find a different plan.”
So remember KISS (Keep It Simple Stupid) or, make it easier and fun. That way, you’re much more likely to reach your dieting goals! See how Amie, mother of two young daughters, reached her goal effortlessly.

The “King Corn” movie is an engaging and subtly powerful documentary that gives a good insight into the effect corn is having on America’s waistline. It follows two recent Yale graduates, Ian Cheney and Curt Ellis, as they return to the rural countryside of Iowa to plant just one acre of corn. They are motivated by a desire to understand where their food really comes from and to reconnect with their roots. What they find raises questions about how we eat and how we farm.
President George W. Bush proudly said, “We’re now selling corn all around the world,” but what effect is this staple food having on the nation? Corn is ubiquitous in the American diet (many products in the grocery store are derived from corn) and its overproduction has contributed to epidemic levels of obesity. In the film, nutritionists also discuss the link between diabetes and high-fructose corn syrup.
The King Corn documentary traces the history of corn in modern America and the way things have changed. A farmer in the film, Don Clikeman, says, “We aren’t growing quality. We’re growing crap.”
